Send MAGA to Mars

I like to think of myself as an even-tempered, reasonable man who is willing to listen to any and all viewpoints.

I’m not, but I like to think of myself that way.

I am pro-just-about-everything-the-MAGA-people-are-against. Equal access to marriage, check. Reproductive rights? Check. Active functional oversight of government? Check. Paths to citizenship for migrants? Check. Reasonable discourse in politics? Check.

Where MAGA-types and I disagree (other than all the stuff above) is the right of others to have their opinions. MAGA-types tend not to respect others’ rights at all. They want the blacks, the Jews, the migrants, the LBTGQ+, the non-Christians, everyone except middle-to-low-income poorly educated whites — they want them all gone.

They believe in “freedom of religion” as long as it treats conservative right-wing intolerant churches as the only valid forms of worship. When someone else asks to practice their own religion in peace, MAGA-types claim their rights are being violated. (I find it very amusing that MAGA types typically do very poorly on Bible trivia. But you know exactly why this is the case — none of them have ever actually, you know, read the Bible.)

In a way, you can’t blame them too much for their insular closed-minded worldview. Most of them are really not all that smart. True story: a few days ago, the Yavapai (Arizona) County Recorder had to post this:

They live in an echo chamber where the only opinions they can hear are their own. Absolutely anything that goes contrary to that is “woke”.

Idiots.

“Hold on, Jay,” you say. “Tell us how you really think.”

I’ll keep it simple: since MAGA nation doesn’t want any of the rest of us around, and there are a lot more of us than there are them, let’s give them what they want. A little sandbox all their own that they don’t have to share with anyone else.

Mars.

I will leave open the question of how this will be accomplished for another day. I’m an idea man. (Will Rogers said his solution to the U-Boat menace during World War II was to ‘drain the ocean’. When asked how he would accomplish this, he said ‘That’s for someone else to accomplish. I’m an idea man.”)
